Truly a wonderful item

Solvit Standard Tagalong Booster Medium

Solvit Standard Tagalong Booster Medium

I agonized a bit over what car booster seat to go with for my 4-pound Chihuahua, Periwinkle. After reading a wealth of reviews, I chose the Solvit Tagalong Pet Booster Seat. Given her small stature and light weight, I opted for the medium size.

Assembly was a breeze. Excluding the time it took to unpack the seat and review the instructions, I spent only 1-2 minutes tops putting the seat together and then attaching it to the seat in my car. Both straps (one goes around the headrest, the other goes around the back of the seat) are really easy to adjust for the best possible fit. Since the straps attach to the seat and can be removed, you can adjust their fit then simply unclip them so you don't have to readjust the straps every single time you need to use it. The liner can also be removed for easy cleaning, if needed.

The seat is snug, sturdy, and didn't sag or get misshapen even with Periwinkle fussing around trying to figure out which direction she wanted to face. A few times she got really excited and wanted to jump out to see me, but the safety strap and her harness combined did their job and she was gently and safely restrained.

This is a fantastic product and feels like it's made out of high quality materials. I would recommend this to anyone with a dog that likes to go for car rides.

  1. We have a 14 year old terrier/Chihuahua 12lbs, fits perfectly in his size large seat. This seat allows him to stand, sit, or lay down; he has the ability to see out of the car window. There is a strap buckle in the seat that we use to buckle him in by his harness. I would not recommend using this strap buckle for collar leashes, if they try to jump out this will cause them to hang and choke. This seat states that it fits dogs up to 18lbs, my dog is 12lbs, large gives him more room, and a medium size would be a tight fit. This seat is very easy to assemble, mount and dismount in your car and light in weight. I highly recommend this product for first time buyers of small dog car seats.

  2. We bought this for our Toy Fox Terrier/Chihuahua mix and I wasn't exactly sure how she would like it, but I felt the need to have something to keep her safe. Usually she likes to try and wedge herself between my back and the carseat so she can see out the window. Anyway, after a few rides in it, she now adores it. Soon as she gets in the car she hops in it and can't wait to go. I bought the medium and it fits her perfect. She's pretty small (3.5 pounds) or as my friends say, about the size of a squirrel..haha. If your dog is more than 5 pounds I might recommend the larger one.

  3. As a person who frequently travels with 4 canine companions, I cannot stress enough what a great product this is! I specifically bought this for my 12 pound Sheltie because she is so tiny (for a Sheltie) that she becomes lost in the back seat of my truck if she is back there with my Siberian Husky and two large Shelties. Now she is up front with me and can see out the window. I will admit though, that her first round trip of 400 miles was not spent enjoying the view of passing cars and scenery. She slept, very comfortably, I might add, for about 85% of the trip. I love the safety feature of being able to secure her using her harness, and not worrying that she will try to jump out. I would highly recommend this product.

  4. My name is Willow, I'm a 3.5 lbs Yorkie. I get to use this seat when we travel with the Range Rover on the weekends, Boy do I like to sit there and see everything that's going on !! I feel like a princess in a pod. I would recommand this to all my little dogs that can get hurt sitting on their owners lap. This is much safer.

  6. I am very pleased with this product. I bought one 2yrs ago when my dog was smaller. He loves that he sits up high and is able to see out the window. He is safe and secure in his seat. I was also very pleased with the seller . The prduct was delivered as promised. I would be happy to do business with them again.

  7. I was very excited to receive these seats because they were just what I wanted for my dogs. I set them up and my sweet girls even jumped in...they know their stuff when they see it.
Well much to my dismay they did not work in the back seats of my car and that is where I wanted to put them. The headrests in my Infinit G37 don't have a spot to put anything around them so I couldn't hang them back there. The moral of the story is check your seats to make sure you can put a strap around the headrests. If so, these are the PERFECT little seats for your pet!
I got a Large for my 10 pound dog and an ex-Large for my 18 pound dog and those were a good size for them.

  8. Fred is my little Yorkie...he weighs a little more than 4 pounds and is about 9" from his neck to tail - I ordered the standard size booster seat and it is a perfect fit for him. He has room to stand, sit and lay down as he chooses, though for now, he loves sitting up and being able to see this great big world. Now Fred's world isn't terribly big and we don't exactly travel to the ends of the earth on any given day, but Fred really likes to see where he is going and loves to check out other doggies in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot while he waits for me to grab a gallon of milk.

I'm giving the product five stars because I knew what I was buying when I ordered the booster seat, but there are a couple of things to remember before buying. One, this booster seat has to be used on a stand alone seat in your vehicle with a head rest. One of the anchor straps goes around the headrest and the other must be able to completely encircle the seat itself. While installation was not difficult at all, when an actual human wants to ride in the seat, the pet booster needs to be unclipped and removed for comfort. The booster CAN fold up so it lays flat against the seat back, but does create quite a lump there. In my car, the only potential seat workable for the booster is the front passenger seat...my back seats have integrated, curved headrests and while I do have child safety seat metal loops, I have no way of attaching the lower strap completely around the seat portion.

I also needed to extend the built in clip to attach to Fred's harness, which yes, only use a harness in these carriers, a neck collar alone is not safe in case the dog would somehow manage to climb over or get ejected from the seat in a crash. Anyhoo, Fred, though small, was too "tall," even when just sitting, for the included clip to attach to his harness without forcing him to lay down...there is not a lot of leeway there, but I was able to fashion another clip using a small leash lead from the pet store.

The booster seat is very well-made and sturdy. There is a metal bracket that helps the booster hold its form and it has a stiff bottom as well. The exterior is a faux leather that can easily be wiped clean and the fleece liner is removable and washable as well. I put my passenger seat completely upright, otherwise I just had too much tilt and Fred couldn't see out over the front. I have the top edge of the booster level with my window so Fred gets full view out of his window. It's fun pulling up at a light and seeing people look over and be able to see Fred riding along, sitting as tall as any human :-)

  9. I have a Maltepoo and he insisted on being in my lap in the car. It just was not safe driving with him in my lap especially after he got bigger.

He loves his seat and he is able to see out the window. He weighs almost 9 pounds and it is just big enough for him to comfortably curl up if he feels like sleeping.

    I would highly recommend!
